The step past the marathon — Big Chief and Marlette, on the Tahoe Rim.
Two 50Ks anchor the season, and they are very different days. Big Chief in June climbs granite and singletrack above Truckee. Marlette in August goes up to Marlette Lake and out along the Flume Trail, which is the biggest view of any race we run.
Both carry a shorter companion distance on the same morning — a 20K at Big Chief, a 10-miler at Marlette — so you can enter the day without committing to the whole thing. Aid stations are stocked and staffed, and there are cut-offs on anything past 50K.
